Circle of Concerned African Women Theologian 5th Pan-African Conference

Conference Theme

Mother Earth, Mother Africa in Theological/Religious/Cultural/Philosophical Imagination

  • Circle of Concerned African Women Theologian 5th Pan-African Conference

    July 2, 2019 – July 4, 2019

As the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians celebrates thirty years of existence and impressive productivity, the fifth continent wide conference shall be held in Gaborone, Botswana in July 2-5, 2019. Given that the land is often constructed as female gendered and the oppression of women is interlinked with the oppression of the Earth; and given that it is widely acknowledged that we live in the era of global warming - which is humanly induced and of which many have also linked with anthropocentric religious/cultural/theological perspectives -- the conference theme calls for research papers that interrogate the link between gender, land, race, class, ethnicity, colonialism, globalization and environmental sustainability. It solicits for papers that reimagine human relationships with the Earth from paradigms of liberation.

Department of Library and Information Studies

Of late, Sustainable Development and Knowledge-Based Economy are two global priorities that are highly debated at each forum of development.  Knowledge-Based Economy is key to Sustainable Development. The knowledge-based economy refers to an economy in which growth is dependent on the quantity, quality, and accessibility of the information available, rather than the means of production. In the knowledge based society, sustainable development should be attained through creation, generation and application of new knowledge.

The 2019 Biennial DLIS conference aims at discussing the whole spectrum of records, information and knowledge management that will help individuals and organizations to be at a competitive edge in the global knowledge economy and be able to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This conference will be a platform and opportunity for researchers, industrial practitioners, academia, information scientists, librarians, archivists and innovators to share their experiences in diverse aspects of records, information and knowledge management including innovation knowledge solutions. The conference will further provide an excellent interdisciplinary forum to discuss the most recent approaches, concerns and practical challenges at all stages of the knowledge lifecycle.

  • The 2017 International Conference of the Department of Library and Information Studies (DLIS)

    March 15, 2017 – March 17, 2017

You are cordially invited to attend the 2017 DLIS Conference to be held from 15 – 17 March 2017 in Gaborone at the University of Botswana, Conference Center. The theme of the conference is “Information and Knowledge for Competitiveness”.

Management of information resources keeps on changing as technology becomes the central focus in the stride towards knowledge-based economies. The way information is generated,  stored, accessed and used has changed to a point where, instead of immobile physical libraries and records management units, we now have pervasive library  and information systems where information can be accessed and utilised anywhere and anytime. Another trend transforming traditional information management is the emergence of integrated library and record keeping systems where information can be accessed from multiple information repositories anywhere and anytime. These developments have ensured that information and knowledge can easily be accessed and used in heterogeneous socio-economic establishments ubiquitously – solidifying the concept of the knowledge economy.

The 2017 DLIS conference will aim to discuss the whole spectrum of records, information and knowledge management (including traditional and emerging approaches) that will help individuals and organisations to be at a competitive edge in the global knowledge economy.
