Venue
Gaborone is the host city of IGALA 10. Gaborone is a fast growing and vibrant city which is well known for its peace and colourfulness. It boasts of many shopping centres with a variety of entertainment facilities and eateries to suit every taste. It also has a number of historical and cultural monuments, a museum and art gallery, a rhino sanctuary and many more places to see.
Just outside Gaborone is the Mokolodi Nature reserve which provides visitors with an opportunity to sample some of Botswana's iconic wildlife. The nature reserve also boasts of a bush style restaurant with outdoor dining facilities; it is here that conference delegates will enjoy the conference dinner.
The conference will take place at the University of Botswana's Gaborone campus in Building 252 near the New Student Centre. The facility boasts of four large lecture theatres with large double screens for projecting videos and power point slides. For parallel sessions there are several classrooms (capacity 40 people in each) with networked computers for all media presentations(video/audio and powerpoint), with automated blinds to control the amount of light coming into the rooms during presentations.
The University of Botswana is the first and largest public university, with a main campus in Gaborone and two satelite campuses, one of which is the Okavango Research Institute based in Maun, near the Okavango delta. This campus specialises on the Okavango wetlands research activities. The University of Botswana has a student population of about 17, 000 students across its campuses and a staff compliment of 2, 500. It has about eight faculties, including the Faculty of Humanites, which will host IGALA 10, the Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Business. The University also has a modern indoor sports complex which houses, among others, student and staff gyms, and there's a large swimming pool nearby.
For those who wish to connect with family and friends there is wifi available in most parts of the university. Arrangements will be made to provide delegates with a password to use the university wifi.

Travel and Visa Requirements
Gaborone can be accessed via Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport where most major airlines fly to. From Johannesburg there are daily flights operated by Air Botswana and South African airways. Ethiopian airlines and Kenya Airways have two or three filghts a week to Gaborone.
From Gaborone International airport (aka Sir Seretse Khama International Airport) there will be transport arranged for delegates for a small charge. More information will be availed once we have negotiated a fare with the taxi company. The taxis will take each delegate to their hotel. There will be ushers at the airport to direct delegates where to go.
Delegates are responsible for acquiring a travel visa. Many countries have a Botswana embassy or have a neighbour with a Botswana embassy/high commission. Applications can also be made online. If it is absolutely necessary, contact Rose Letsholo-Tafila on letsholor@mopipi.ub.bw for assistance.

To be on the safe side, please enquire to avoid disappointment. But we hope that the two lists will help you plan your travel.
Gaborone is a very peaceful city with low crime rates. However, delegates are advised to be sensible and keep their valuables, especially laptops and other electronics, as well as their money and passports, safe. Most hotels recommended by the conference organisers are within a walking distance from the conference venue. However, we will arrange for the taxi company to ferry delegates back to their hotels in the evening to ensure their safety.
For general enquiries contact Sibonile Ellece: ellecesmopipi.ub.bw

Gaborone weather
June is mid-winter in Botswana. However, delegates will be pleased to know that they will probably never see a single cloud in the sky or feel a drop of rain for the whole duration of the conference! Nonetheless, it is important to dress sensibly as it is quite chilly in the mornings and evenings. But it is quite nice and warm by noon. Warm but light jumpers/jerseys are ideal. Closed shoes will keep your feet warm too.
Student Bursaries
There are limited bursary opportunities for students who wish to present papers at the conference. The bursary will cover regsitration fees (which include payment for meals and conference venue). Beneficiaries will have to make their own travel and boarding arrangements which are not covered by the bursary. To apply write to Rose Letsholo-Tafila at letsholor@mopipi.ub.bw
